Nature

The Rozov-Kladenets Reservoir near Gŭlŭbovo is surrounded by low hills reaching 100–130 metres above sea level. Its landscape consists predominantly of open water areas with little shoreline vegetation. The water level remains relatively constant and is warmer than usual in winter because the reservoir is used to cool a nearby thermal power plant.

During bird migration and in winter, the reservoir is an important resting place for waterbirds. 142 bird species have been recorded at the Rozov-Kladenets Reservoir. The body of water is of international importance for wintering pygmy cormorants and great cormorants; corncrakes also occur there during migration.

Culture

In the village of Erkesene near Gŭlŭbovo, part of Khan Tervel’s border rampart is located. A section of the Apiev Roman road is also located in Erkesene. Balzena Fortress is situated on the summit of Gradishte, 2 km south of Glavan. It was an important Byzantine and medieval defensive centre. Only masonry at ground level is visible, and the site has not been developed for tourism.

The Energetik Cultural Centre opened in 1968. It supports amateur groups and schools in the fields of dance, singing and theatre.

In the centre of GÅ­lÅ­bovo, the youth centre is located in a park covering more than 45 decares. The GÅ­lÅ­bovo Skate Park, designed for skateboards, scooters and bicycles, is also located in this youth centre park. The Energia sports complex includes street fitness areas, outdoor fitness equipment, table tennis and a badminton court.
