Pravets: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The collections of the Pravets Historical Museum cover archaeology, numismatics, iconography, gifts to the Bulgarian state and to Todor Zhivkov, as well as foreign art. The permanent exhibition presents the development of the region from antiquity to the mid-20th century. An exhibition at the Vasil Levski Primary School shows the history and development of education in Pravets from 1820 to the present day.

In Vidrare stands the Old Class School, a protected cultural monument dating from 1846–1847. Its museum exhibition covers the history of the village from antiquity to the early period after the Liberation. The school contains a reconstructed 19th-century classroom with a sand writing desk, a punishment corner and desks for mutual instruction. The Tunyakovski Khan in Vidrare was built in 1820 and preserves Vasil Levski’s hiding place as well as its authentic interior.

The Monastery of St. Theodore Tyrone is located 3 km east of Pravets on the road to Etropole and existed from the 15th to the 17th century. The Church of St. Athanasius the Great in Pravets was built in 1851–1853 over an older medieval church and is described as the first public building in Pravets.

Sport and Events

The Pravets sports complex has two standard-sized tennis courts with GreenSet surfaces, service facilities and lighting. The football complex includes four grass pitches; it is used by Bulgarian and foreign teams for pre-season training camps and tournaments.

Trails and Terrain

A tourist trail southeast of Pravets is 2,752 metres long and divided into three sections. The hiking and mountain tourism trail has three rest areas for tourists. It gains 220 metres in elevation on a north-facing slope and runs from an elevation of 519 to 739 metres; the average gradient is 26 degrees.

Landscape

Borovets Fortress stands on the rocky summit of Great Borovets at an elevation of 847.88 metres. It offers views towards the fields of Botevgrad and Etropole.
