Makotsevo is home to the Church of the Great Martyr St Dimitar. It is a cultural monument, was built in 1862, and was renovated in 2003. The votive site of St George is located in western Makotsevo. It contains four stone votive monuments, including richly ornamented, upright examples, and is considered an important monument of memorial stone sculpture in Christian Bulgaria.
History
Makotsevo is considered one of Bulgaria’s old villages; the settlement has existed since the beginning of the 15th century. Near Makotsevo, Mount Opor reaches 1,089 metres. The remains of a Roman fortress are located on the mountain.

Makotsevo is located in the Ihtiman Sredna Gora. The Makotsevska River flows through the area of Makotsevo.
