Lesnovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lesnovo is located in the eastern Sofia Field between the northern slopes of the Stara Planina and the southeastern slopes of the Sredna Gora. The terrain around Lesnovo is characterised as high-lying plain terrain. The Lesnovska River flows near Lesnovo and joins the Iskar.

A special feature of the village is Lesnovo Airport. The RAF Aviation School is based there and offers certified pilot training. The flight school at the airport provides practical training using simulators and real aircraft. The airport also provides a venue for events and exhibitions.

Located on the land of Lesnovo village, the airport can be used during daylight and under visual flight conditions by aircraft weighing up to 5,700 kg and with up to 19 seats. Services include aircraft handling on the apron, fuel and oil services, and passenger services. Culture

Chitalishte Bezsmurtie 1919 organises cultural programmes for commemorative days, public holidays and meetings with artists. The cultural centre’s folk singing, dance and theatre groups have performed numerous times and received awards. The Kukeri groups from Lesnovo organised by Chitalishte Bezsmurtie 1919 have received numerous prizes at performances in Bulgaria.

History

Near Lesnovo, a large Roman road station called Buragara, also known as Bugaraka, is recorded; it was located on a Roman road dating from the third century.

Local Traditions

Devedzhii is a traditional Kukeri custom held in Lesnovo on the first Saturday and Sunday after Epiphany. During Devedzhii, households in Lesnovo traditionally welcome the masked participants with wine, rakia, sudjuk, banitsa and other prepared foods.
