Culture and History
The Historical Museum in Nova Zagora was founded in 1921 by the Zagorie Archaeological Society and history teacher Nikola Stefanov Koychev. It preserves more than 40,000 collection objects, including archaeological, numismatic, historical-documentary, ethnographic, and paleontological materials.
The Karanovo Settlement Mound contains cultural layers from all prehistoric periods, from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, and was inhabited for approximately 3,000 years. The settlement mound, located about 10 kilometers from Nova Zagora, is described as one of the oldest prehistoric mounds in Europe.
