Mechka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mechka’s Danube wetlands and the adjacent islands form an area listed as an ornithological site, with more than 198 bird species. These include species listed in Bulgaria’s Red Data Book. The special character of the place is also evident between the Danube, natural formations, and traces of history.

Nature

Dikilitash is a natural landmark in the Stalpishte area of Mechka. It consists of two large stone pillars located approximately 30–40 metres from the Danube.

The surrounding area of Mechka includes Ostrovul Dinului, Ostrov Lyulyak, Cheshma Rogova, and Ostrov Batin.

History and Culture

In Mechka, a monument dating from 1900 commemorates Russian soldiers who fell in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. It is located 1.5 km from the settlement on the road towards Stalpishte.

The remains of the Roman border fort of Ursus, later known as Trimamium, are located west of Stalpishte.

In the wider regional surroundings of Mechka are the Cherven Fortress and the Muzeul Judeţean Teohari Antonesscu. The surrounding area also contains the Biserica Ortodoxă Sfântul Pantelimon and the Biserica Cetăţuia.
