Culture and History

The Thracian Tomb near Sveshtari is an extremely rare and very well-preserved tomb monument with unique caryatids that are half human and half plant. The Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari is open to visitors, subject to technical conservation requirements.

Helis was founded toward the end of the 4th century BC and existed until around 250 BC. Demir Baba Teke is a 16th-century complex consisting of a tomb temple and the Bes Parmak spring.

Landscape and Trails

The Sboryanovo Reserve lies between Maly Porovets and Sveshtari, in the canyon of the Krapinets River and the surrounding hills. The red-marked History Trail 2 is an easy walking trail; the walking time is approximately one hour, and the route measures about 3 km in each direction. As a circular trail, it connects the Sboryanovo visitor center with the southwestern quarter of the Thracian capital Helis.

History Trail 2 is open year-round; its starting point can be reached by car, bicycle, or on foot. The trail also crosses the ruins of an early medieval settlement in Petrova Niva. From the Demir Baba Steps viewpoint, there are views over the eastern and western burial necropolises, Helis, and the Krapinets Valley.
