Culture

History

The Gorni Dabnik garrison was defeated on October 12, 1877. Major General Vasily Lavrov was among the Russian casualties in the Battle of Gorni Dabnik.

The Church of St. Paraskeva in Gorni Dabnik was completed and consecrated in 1926. It is a single-nave domed building with a carved wooden iconostasis and has been declared a cultural monument.

Nature

The protected area of Gorni Dabnik Reservoir is home to, among other species, Eurasian otters, fire-bellied toads, bitterling, and stag beetles.

The Gorni Dabnik–Telish Important Bird Area comprises two reservoirs, fishponds, and adjacent land in Gorni Dabnik and Telish. The reservoirs in the Gorni Dabnik–Telish area are located directly next to the E83 main road, which connects Lukovit and Pleven. The area is home to 75 recorded bird species, including 34 listed in Bulgaria’s Red Data Book.
