Strelcha: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Strelcha has a municipal balneotherapy centre with an indoor mineral-water pool, several outdoor pools, the Municipal Mineral Beach, the natural mineral spring “Bancheto”, and a medical centre for physiotherapy and therapeutic exercises.

Nature

To the north and north-east of the town, granite colossi and rocky peaks rise up. The rock formations are spread across seven named localities and are protected under Bulgarian nature conservation law.

History

The Zhaba Mogila heroon dates from the 5th century BC. The complex comprises a burial mausoleum and a sanctuary temple.

At the medieval Strelchansko Kale complex, defensive walls approximately eight metres high have been preserved.

The memorial church of St Archangel Michael in Strelcha dates from 1904. It bears the names of the people who were killed from the April Uprising through to the Second World War.

Rose-Growing Tradition

The town festival for essential-oil-bearing crops and tourism includes an Aromas Alley and a Crafts Alley. The local tourism exchange held as part of the festival includes tastings of rose jam and rose rakia. There is also an open day at Strelcha’s Old Rose Distillery, featuring a demonstration of rose-oil extraction.

The Nedeleva House features a permanent exhibition about rose picking, which describes it as Strelcha’s main source of livelihood from the Liberation to the present day.

Hiking

Strelcha serves as a starting point for trekking routes into Sŭshtinska Sredna Gora. They lead to natural and historical sites such as Zhaba Mogila and Kamennata Prikazka, as well as fortresses and the peaks of Vŭlk and Bogdan. The route to Strelchansko Kale takes approximately 40 minutes.
