Stremtsi: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Stremtsi can then continue their search for accommodation. They are known as the Stremtsi Labyrinths and are also called Inklers Cave. The Stremtsi Labyrinths contain a complex of underground galleries extending over several kilometres; traces of ancient gold ore washing are visible in the mining complex. The ancient gold mine near Stremtsi was declared an archaeological cultural monument in 1984.

Culture

In academic research, the Stremtsi gold deposit is described as sedimentary mineralisation of the placer type.

Karachalak Tepe is a fortified Thracian settlement located 1.7 kilometres southeast of Stremtsi. A relatively good unpaved road to Karachalak Tepe branches off the road towards Murgovo and Perperikon. The site had an almost circular citadel with a diameter of approximately 30 metres. Two or three earth-and-stone ramparts and the foundations of a large round tower have been preserved.

Landscape

The Perpereshka River runs close to Stremtsi and flows into the Studen Kladenets Reservoir. In the vicinity of Karachalak Tepe, a hill lies to the east with a direct view of the Perperikon sanctuary.

Transport

Regular bus services connect Stremtsi with Kardzhali and the neighbouring villages. The Stremtsi gold mines are located about 200 metres from the Kardzhali–Haskovo main road, beyond the microdam between Rani list and Stremtsi.

Visiting

Visitors are advised not to enter the galleries of the Stremtsi mine without a guide familiar with the site. The tunnels of the Stremtsi mine had not yet been secured for visitors.
