In the area of Sopovo next to Stoyanovo, a path leads to a narrow gorge on the Botunya River. There, visitors can see unusual oval rock formations known as “abrasive potholes”. Nature
The Botunya River flows next to Stoyanovo. Part of the protected Natura 2000 area BG0000593 “Bilernitsite” is also located in the Stoyanovo area. It was designated to protect habitats including lowland or mountain rivers with aquatic vegetation and sub-Pannonian steppes.
Culture and History
Near Sopovo, close to Stoyanovo, Italian engineers built the iron bridge over the Botunya in the 19th century. Prince Ferdinand supported its construction. In Stoyanovo, it is known as the “Miracle of Northwestern Bulgaria”.
A wooden bridge over the Botunya was repeatedly swept away by floods. The former water power of the river drove 16 fulling mills. The Botunya’s former floods also powered 16 watermills. According to local tradition, the name Stoyanovo goes back to the 18th-century figure Stoyan Voyvoda. Nikolay Sokolov is known for works for children.
Geographical Location
Stoyanovo is located on the road between Vratsa and Montana, about 10 kilometres from the turn-off to Varshets.

The Varshets Tourist Information Centre provides information about accommodation, food, sports, balneotherapy, tourism and entertainment. It also offers the rental of bicycles, tents, fishing rods and mountain guides.
