Golets: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Golets lies on both banks of the Dripla River, also known as Golyam Dol. The river separates two parallel slopes of the Lovech Mountain. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Golets can then continue their search for accommodation.

Culture

The Golets branch of the Chitalishte Probuda has a women's singing group, a satirical troupe, and a library with 5,199 volumes. The traditional women's clothing included white headscarves with flowers or gilded bouquets, colorful shirts with wide sleeves, woolen garments, and red aprons with woven or beaded belts. Traditional men's clothing consisted of fur hats, shirts, Poturi trousers, Aba coats, handwoven waistcoats, and red sashes with white stripes. The traditional Horo dances were accompanied by songs and later by bagpipes and the kaval.

In Golets, the house of the descendants of Ivan Hristov Kapchiyski and the house of Rayko Kolev Dachev, including its gate and the tree in front of it, are listed as locally significant architectural and construction-related cultural heritage sites. Two traditional spring-water fountains, the Turkish Fountain and the old fountain beside the river, were restored through a local initiative.

History

According to local tradition, Golets' earliest settlement was located near Guzre around 1300. The residents moved east after no more than 50 years because the location was exposed to storms and winds. Local history associates the name Golets with Bay Kolyo, known as Goltak, who built the first Bulgarian house there around 1500.

Nature

In the Golets area, there is a signposted and improved footpath of approximately 1 km to Kavuka Waterfall. The waterfall is located on the river between Golets and Kirkova Mahala; the walking time is described as approximately 30 minutes, and the route is described as suitable for a picnic. Several smaller waterfalls and large rock formations are described along the river above Kavuka Waterfall. A rock painting near Kavuka, close to Golets, is described as being between 5,000 and 10,000 years old.

Ruen Peak is designated as the highest point of the Pre-Balkan range south of Golets. Spring visits to Ruen Peak are described as a long-standing local tradition. They include hikes, observing the awakening landscape, gathering wild garlic, and group picnics. Zmeyka Cave is a wet, periodically flooded cave approximately 130 meters long, with a single level, no side passages, and an elevation difference of approximately two meters. Access is described as suitable only for equipped specialists because reaching the galleries requires crawling through a narrow opening and entering deep, cold water.

Water

The Big Reservoir covers approximately 17 decares and can be reached by car via an unpaved road near Golets' eastern entrance. The Small Reservoir is located within Golets and is accessible via an asphalt road.
