Cherni Vit: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Boatin Reserve is located in the territory of Cherni Vit and encompasses the catchment area of the Cherni Vit River. Cherni Vit has a pronounced mountainous landscape, ranging from 450 meters at Pelovoto to 2,033 meters at Kartal Peak.

Hiking

The Benkovska Cave eco-trail begins at the Neyo Kracunov Monument, is approximately 1 kilometer long, and has a stated duration of 40 minutes. At the starting point of the Benkovska Cave trail, there is a water fountain and a parking lot next to the Neyo Kracunov Monument. The Benkovska Cave–Chertigrad eco-trail is approximately 4 kilometers long and has a stated duration of two and a half hours.

History and Culture

The remains of the ancient Thracian fortress of Chertigrad can be seen along the Chertigrad trail. The trail offers panoramic views toward the Stara Planina. The museum in Cherni Vit displays a copy of flag no. 9 of Georgi Benkovski’s “Flying Company.” Benkovska Cave is connected to the April Uprising of 1876 through the history of Georgi Benkovski and local resident Neyo Kracunov. A historical reenactment takes place every year at the Neyo Kracunov Monument at the end of May.

Cuisine

Tcherni Vit green cheese is produced exclusively in Cherni Vit and the surrounding municipalities. Tetevan is described as a rustic local sheep breed and is associated with the traditional production of Tcherni Vit green cheese.
