Culture and History

The digital portal of the History Museum provides free online access to scanned issues of the local weekly newspaper “Svetlina” from 1920–1944 and describes a planned ethnographic exhibition on urban life and culture at the beginning of the 20th century. Archaeological investigations on Kulata Hill in Dupnitsa uncovered the foundations of a fortress dating from the 4th–5th century.

Geographical Setting

The municipality of Dupnitsa is crossed by the Struma motorway and the E79 corridor between Kulata, Blagoevgrad, Dupnitsa and Sofia. The electrified Sofia–Kulata railway line also runs through the area; a branch line to Bobov Dol begins in Dupnitsa.
