Bizhovtsi: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bizhovtsi is listed in the protected zone of the Dryanovo Monastery, code BG0000214. The part of the Bozhentsi protected area belonging to Bizhovtsi is designated for educational, mountain and ecotourism.

Culture and History

In nearby Bozhentsi, the Baba Rayna House Museum is housed in one of the oldest surviving buildings in the village; the building dates from the second half of the 18th century. The museum houses an ethnographic exhibition from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Doncho Popov House Museum is the home of a wealthy merchant from the beginning of the 19th century. Mengema is a workshop for wax cleaning from the beginning of the 19th century. The Old School Exhibition Hall is housed in a building constructed in 1870.

Nature and Trails

The nearby “Roman Road” eco-trail runs through a lower-lying forest area along an ancient Roman road dating from the 4th century. It begins in the village and is approximately 8 km long. Along the trail there are rest areas with tables, benches, gazebos and fire pits, as well as information boards with route maps. Hiking and cycling routes run through the territory of Tryavna Municipality.

Cycling Route

The Tryavna–Bizhovtsi–Genchovtsi route is 14.6 km long and has a low level of technical difficulty and low physical demands. The route is estimated to take approximately 1–2 hours; it runs along asphalt and dirt roads. At kilometer 5.1, it reaches Bizhovtsi and then continues along an asphalt road. The route description notes that some roads may disappear; GPS can help with navigation. One section of the route offers wide views towards Shipka and Buzludzha.

According to the Bulgarian Tourist Union, the traditional cuisine in nearby Bozhentsi includes local specialties prepared according to old recipes.
