Culture and History

More than 900 metres of fortification walls, up to 3 metres high, have been preserved in Hotalich. After more than 45 years of archaeological research, Hotalich is an open-air museum. The fortress complex includes five gates and remains of medieval fortifications. There are also picnic areas, educational eco-trails and viewing platforms overlooking the Sevlievo Plain towards Botev Peak.

The Sevlievo Historical Museum preserves nearly 50,000 objects in collections on archaeology, the National Revival, modern history, ethnography and art. The Sevlievo Museum of Contemporary Art was established in 2017 in a protected school building dating from 1885 and displays works by contemporary Bulgarian artists.

Museums and Local Traditions

The Sevlievo Pumpkin Museum is located in the Dandolov Houses ethnographic complex and presents a retrospective collection related to the annual Pumpkin Festival. The buildings were constructed in 1870; each one has a shop, a street gate and access to a shared courtyard. The Tabahana museum exhibition presents the development of leatherworking, which is important to Sevlievo and the surrounding area.

Geographical Location

Sevlievo has a 5,533-metre cycling path that begins at Chernichkite Park, follows the road to Gabrovo and turns towards the Rositsa River. The Batoshevo Convent is located in the centre of Batoshevo, 16 kilometres from Sevlievo, and is connected to Sevlievo by a well-maintained third-class asphalt road.
