Pchelin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The protected natural landmark “Rock Formations in Chiflikova Niva” is located in the land area of Pchelin, in Sungurlare Municipality, Burgas Province.

Nature

In an order dated March 9, 2026, the area is recorded as 81.291 decares; this replaced the previously recorded area of 80 decares. The natural landmark was designated as “The Rock Formations in Chiflikova Niva” by Order No. 4051 dated December 29, 1973. The purpose of this designation is to protect notable geological features. Rock formations near Pchelin are among the sites in Sungurlare Municipality that can be included in ecotourism routes.

Culture and History

Remains of a Roman fortress were found in the immediate vicinity of Pchelin. Historic wells are recorded in the area around the outskirts of Pchelin. The Sungurlare museum collection “Vine-growing and Winemaking” is housed in a restored two-storey vernacular-style house built in 1882. The Church of St Archangel Michael in Sungurlare contains wood carvings featuring vines and grapes, reflecting the area’s traditional livelihood.

Wine and Events

Various grape varieties are cultivated in and around the town of Sungurlare and in Slavyantsi. Every year on February 14, Sungurlare Municipality holds the Trifon Zarezan celebration for winegrowers and winemakers. The municipality identifies cultural and historical tourism, cultural event tourism, nature and ecotourism, as well as wine, rural, hunting and fishing tourism as development opportunities. On the first Saturday in June, the municipality also holds the gathering “The Valley of Vines Sings and Dances”.

Municipal road BGS3270 is 2.870 km long and passes through the land areas of Vezhenkovo, Manolich, Velislav and Pchelin.
