Culture

The Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Pahost-Zagorodskiy dates from the 19th century. Its building history goes back further: the present church originated from a building erected in 1779 as the Church of Saint Joseph. Following Kalinowski's uprising in 1863, the church in Pahost-Zaharodsk was converted into an Orthodox church. In 1945, it became the Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius again.

Before the Second World War, the Jewish community of Pahost-Zaharodny maintained a Hebrew school, a Talmud Torah, a library, and a drama club. The historical sites of Pahost-Zagorodskiy include a former yeshiva and synagogue dating from the late 19th century. There is also a destroyed Jewish cemetery there.

At the beginning of the 21st century, a former synagogue building was still preserved in Pahost-Zaharodsk. Remains of the Jewish cemetery were also preserved there. A chapel believed to date from the 19th century stands by the roadside.

History

In 2017, a historical memorial with plaques commemorating L. Golembiowski and K. Drutsky-Lyubetsky was consecrated in Pahost-Zaharodsk. In 2018, a monument was unveiled in a cemetery in Pahost-Zaharodsk to local residents and prisoners brought to concentration camps who died during the fascist occupation.

A memorial site associated with Pahost-Zagorodskiy for Holocaust victims is located in the wilderness of “Mała Dolina” (“Little Valley”), in the forest on the road to Vyaz and in the area of the former ghetto.

Nature

The Pahost Reservoir is located near Pahost-Zaharodsk in the “Bobrik” recreation area in Pinsk District. The body of water allows for summer and winter fishing.

Archaeological excavations around Lake Pahostskoye uncovered 28 early human settlements.
