Leashki: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the regional surroundings of Leoshki, the Sporowski Reserve was the first area in Belarus to receive international protection status as a Ramsar site and IBA status (Important Bird Area). The Sporowski Biological Reserve encompasses the largest continuous lowland bog area in Polesie and is located in the floodplain of the Yaselda.

The local road N-78 leads from Bereza via Leoshki to Mormozhevo; there is also an access road to the village of Khomichi.

Nature and Landscape

The Leoshki peat deposit is designated as deposit no. 120 on the map of large peat deposits in the Yaselda basin. On the right bank of the Yaselda, the Beresa Terrace is particularly prominent in Leoshki in the section from Selez to Bereza and reaches a width of 100 to 120 m there.

In the regional surroundings of Leoshki, the Sporowski Reserve offers an individual guided tour on the “V kraju vertlyavoy kamyshevki” ecological trail for up to three people.

Culture and History

The Red Barracks in Bereza were built in 1870. Today, they house rows of shops, an art gallery and a café. Also in Bereza, the only spiritual and patriotic complex in Belarus was opened in 2009 on the grounds of the 19th-century Old Park. The Carthusian monastery in Bereza was built between 1648 and 1689.

The “Austrian Cemetery” is located in the village of Novoselki, 1.5 km from Bereza. The “Zditovskaya Defense” memorial complex in Novoselki was built in 1975 at the site of fierce fighting involving the “Sovetskaya Belorussia” partisan brigade.

Leoshki itself is also associated with historical names: In 1620, Chancellor Lew Sapieha gave the church in the village of Leoshki four voloki of land called “Troyanovshchizna”. A chalk factory was established in the vicinity of Leoshki.
