History
Starobin was first mentioned in the 16th century as a settlement of the Principality of Slutsk. Later, the town belonged, among others, to the Olelkowicz, Radziwiłł, Wittgenstein and Hohenlohe princes. In 1654, Starobin was granted the right to hold a weekly market and four annual fairs.
In the vicinity of Starobin, at the site of what is now the Soligorsk Reservoir, a memorial plaque has commemorated since 2002 the former location of the church dedicated to Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist, which was demolished in 1932.

Culture
The present-day Church of St. Nicholas in Starobin was built in 1859 with funds provided by Prince Wittgenstein. Starobin is located 12 kilometers south of Soligorsk railway station and 145 kilometers from Minsk. Roads to Soligorsk, Lyuban and Mikashevichi run through Starobin.
