Nature
Below the canalized upper 12.5 kilometers, the course of the Sha is highly winding and 6 to 12 meters wide. Its banks are steep and partly abrupt. The Sha freezes over in mid to late December.
Water
A described paddling section of the Sha passes through Chrost. There is a bridge about 600 meters before the village, and another bridge is located in the village itself, 2.3 kilometers farther on.
Directly downstream from Chrost, a popular rest area is located on the right bank, with a shelter, a large fire pit with benches, a jetty, and a small beach.
On the Sha, about 100 meters beyond the road bridge, there is an old, dilapidated reinforced-concrete bridge that has sunk into the water. Its slabs block passage; caution is required when water levels fluctuate.
Culture
The ceramicist Sergei Kakshinsky was born in Chrost, spent his childhood there, and attended school there. He uses red, fire-resistant, and white clays for his ceramics; the red clay comes from Radoshkovichi.
His grandfather was considered an excellent carpenter, woodturner, and woodworker. He made carved window frames and friezes and used them to decorate his own house as well as neighboring houses; he also created a carved veranda.
