Baravoe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The “Ad Kalyad da Pakrou” collective is reviving and performing seasonal calendar customs such as “Kalyady”, “Vyalikdzen”, “Syomukha” and “Bahach”. During Svyatki, a traditional carnival procession begins in Baravoye: costumed Kolyada singers visit homes and wish the residents happiness, health and prosperity for the coming year. The Kalyady custom is observed twice in Baravoye, on Orthodox and Catholic Christmas days.

History

In the centre of Baravoye, there is a mass grave of 330 Soviet soldiers and a memorial to the residents. The complex includes an obelisk erected in 1980, a bas-relief of a soldier and partisans, and name plaques commemorating 236 residents of the local village council. In April 1942, the two partisan groups joined to form the 125th partisan detachment “I. V. Stalin”.

Vladislav Dybowski studied geology and later published several collections of Belarusian folklore. The Dybowski Chapel with crypt was designed as a two-storey structure with a lower crypt and an altar opposite the entrance; it was built or remodelled after 1900.

Geographical Location

The Dybowski Chapel with crypt lies between Baravoye and Novaya Ruditsa and is difficult to see from the road, so you have to keep a close eye out for it. The remains of the chapel and the Dybowski family burial vault are located on the Dzyarzhynsk–Rubiashyevichy road, at the turn-off to Baravoye. Near Baravoye, the Dybowski Chapel with crypt is an unusual, round, single-storey structure.

Local bus route 216C operates between Dzyarzhynsk and Baravoye. Local bus route 489C connects Minsk with Baravoye and runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
