Samur has an international customs checkpoint for vehicle and passenger traffic between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation; the checkpoint also processes trucks.
Landscape
The Qusar Rayon contains mountainous areas with deciduous forests, springs, waterfalls and small lakes. The Qusar State Nature Reserve covers 15,000 hectares and was established to protect and increase the populations of pheasants, partridges, deer, wild boar and hares. The Samur River flows through the Qusar Rayon; the rayon is also crossed by the Samur-Absheron, Xanarxı and Cağar-Cibir irrigation canals.
Culture
The Qusar–Laza route gives visitors access to historical monuments and examples of applied folk art in the village of Aniq. The Qusar–Sudur route includes a visit to the 16th-century mausoleum of Sheikh Juneyd in the village of Hazra. Along the same route, visitors can discover applied folk art as well as local customs and traditions.

Shahdag Resort offers skiing in winter and hiking and cycling in summer. It has 14 designated ski slopes. Hiking, cycling and paragliding are available in the Shahdag area in both summer and winter. The Laza–Kuzun hiking route includes cliffs, waterfalls and open forests in the Qusarçay Valley.

Local restaurants in Qusar and the surrounding area serve Lezgin dishes. The Qusar Rayon is associated with a Lezgin culinary tradition that includes bread baked in a traditional xərək oven, şakuka and the meat pie tskan.
