Palawan
Accommodation in Palawan
Palawan offers nature experiences with very different character: an underground river on the west coast, caves in Quezon, species-rich reefs and the islands in the south. A lake with rugged rock formations is also among the natural destinations described here. When planning your stay, you can first consider which of these landscapes interests you most. This lets you choose a holiday rental based on your personal priorities, without combining the different experiences into a single excursion.
Underground river, reefs and rocky landscapes
Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park lies on Palawan’s west coast, about 76 kilometres northwest of Puerto Princesa. The underground river is 8.2 kilometres long and flows directly into the sea. A river tour open to the general public travels up to 4.5 kilometres inland. These figures refer to different measurements: the length of the underground river and the distance covered on this tour. If you are particularly interested in this river landscape, you can make it the starting point for planning your trip.
The Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, which is located off Palawan and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a different facet of nature. Its reefs are home to more than 360 coral species and almost 700 fish species. Corals and fish are therefore the focus of this natural destination. Kayangan Lake, in turn, is known for its rugged rock formations and crystal-blue water. These places represent different reasons to choose accommodation for a trip to Palawan: an underground waterway, a reef world, or a lake and rocky landscape. You can decide which experience matters most to you before choosing your accommodation.
The Mt. Mantalingahan Protected Landscape is also part of Palawan’s natural scenery. The protected area covers 120,457 hectares. Its size offers a different perspective from individual, clearly defined destinations such as Kayangan Lake: here, the focus is on a vast protected landscape. Nature lovers can therefore find both specific water-based destinations and an extensive protected landscape on Palawan to help guide their travel plans.
Visiting caves in Quezon
The Tabon Cave Complex is located in Quezon, Palawan. You first need an entry permit for a cave tour. It must be obtained at the Tabon Caves Area Museum and Satellite Office in Barangay Alfonso XIII, Quezon, before you continue to Tawa-Tawa in Lipuun Point. The order is important when planning your visit: first obtain the permit, then proceed to the cave area.
Access to the Tabon Caves includes a new concrete road and a walkway leading to the cave entrance. No boat trip is required. The permit and access are two distinct parts of visitor information: obtain the permit before continuing, while the road and walkway describe the route to the cave entrance. If the caves are your main focus, take these arrangements into account when choosing where to stay.
The Tourist Rest Area is also located in the municipality of Roxas. It has clean toilets, an information centre, a Pasalubong Centre for small and medium-sized enterprises, a charging station and an ATM. These facilities are relevant for getting your bearings locally and distinguish the Tourist Rest Area from the natural destinations described here: it is a specific point of contact with a range of amenities.
Balabac and the southern islands
Balabac lies at the southernmost point of Palawan. The Balabac Islands comprise 30 islands associated with island hopping. Pink sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs and diverse aquatic wildlife define the description of these islands. This gives them a very different focus from a cave tour or a trip along the underground river: here, the emphasis is on islands, beaches and reefs. If this landscape particularly appeals to you, it should play a correspondingly important role in your choice of holiday rental and travel plans.
Explore Palawan further through its destinations: Busuanga, Coron and Narra. First decide whether you mainly want to experience a river, reefs, caves, a lake or islands. Then choose your accommodation with the destination you want to make the focus of your trip in mind.
