Lavezares brings together church history and religious sites with a distinctive coastal setting, community festivals, and its own food tradition. This is reflected in the Nuestra Señora de Salvacion Historical and Ecclesiastical Museum, the Statue of the Risen Christ, and Molido. The rock formations off Biri also help orient visitors: they lie outside Lavezares and can be reached by bangka. Here, you can experience different sides of the region, from historical collections to a crossing over the water.

Sacred History and a Coastal Landmark

The Nuestra Señora de Salvacion Historical and Ecclesiastical Museum houses church artifacts, sacred art, and historical documents about the history of Lavezares. The collections focus on different areas: items associated with the church, religious art, and written records of local history. On September 8, 2022, the Diocese of Catarman designated the museum a “Diocesan Cultural Heritage Structure.” Together, the collection and the designation offer two different insights into the cultural character of the town.

Another religious landmark is the Statue of the Risen Christ in Barangay Balicuatro. It stands on the coast opposite the San Bernardino Strait. The surrounding area includes rock formations and coral areas. Here, a religious landmark meets a distinctive coastal setting. This adds a landscape quite different from the museum’s historical collections to the picture of Lavezares.

Community Festivals with Their Own Character

Tugtugan sa Plaza is an annual community event held at the Municipal Auditorium in Lavezares. The program includes live bands, food stalls, and beverage vendors. If you are planning to travel for this event, check the dates and program in advance.

The Pinonayan Festival is a community-wide celebration associated with devotion to Señor Santo Niño and giving thanks for blessings and abundant harvests. It is held annually; the date of the next event has yet to be announced. The Drum and Lyre Competition adds another community-focused element: this interschool competition has been held for many years as part of major community celebrations. Together, these events showcase different aspects of community life: music and stalls, religious devotion, and a competition between schools.

Molido and the Coastal Landscape off Biri

Molido is also part of Lavezares’s local tradition. Kamote is boiled and mashed, sweetened with coconut and sugar, and shaped by hand. The preparation makes it recognizable as a distinctive traditional food; its ingredients and handmade quality are part of its description. Molido thus adds a culinary connection to the place alongside its cultural and religious themes.

Six rock formations shaped by wind and waves lie off Biri’s northern coast. The crossing from Lavezares by bangka takes about an hour, though the duration may vary depending on conditions. This landscape is therefore not in Lavezares itself: the statue in Balicuatro is part of the town’s coastal setting, while reaching the rock formations off Biri requires a crossing. Tricycles are available in Lavezares for local trips. As availability can change, it is best to check when you arrive.

Plan Your Trip Around the Experiences

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Lavezares, start with the kind of trip you have in mind: are you mainly interested in sacred history and community festivals, the coastal landscape, or also the crossing to Biri? For a festival, dates and the program matter; for Biri, allow for the roughly one-hour bangka crossing, whose duration depends on conditions. These distinctions can help you decide whether Lavezares is the right destination for your interests.
