Herzlia offers a range of discoveries: traces of a Crusader fortress can be seen in Apollonia National Park, while sailing and other water activities are available at the marina. The winter pond in Herzliya Park adds a seasonal natural highlight. This gives you different ways to plan your trip: historic sites, landscape views, nature watching or time on the water.

Apollonia: Fortress Traces and Views

Apollonia National Park lies on the outskirts of Herzliya. There you can see ballista stones that attackers fired at the Crusader fortress. The bridge to Apollonia Fort also tells a story of destruction: it was destroyed along with the fort, and its two supporting pillars can still be seen at the bottom of the moat. The projectiles and bridge remains illustrate different aspects of the fortress: the attack on the site and the trace of a destroyed connection.

A lookout point stands on the remains of the tower. From there, you can see the coastline to the west, the chimneys of Hadera Power Station to the north and those of Ashdod Power Station to the south. Visibility of the chimneys farther away may depend on conditions. The remains of the Crusader port can also be seen from the lookout point. The landscape view and port remains thus offer two different perspectives on the same place. There is also a villa in Herzliya Pituach.

Ancient Sites and the Seasons

Tel Michal is an ancient hill overlooking Herzliya Marina. This makes it different from Apollonia: there, the view is shaped by the coast, power station chimneys and port remains; at Tel Michal, the marina is the named point of reference. The two places therefore offer different highlights—fortress traces and distant views in one, and an ancient hill overlooking the marina in the other.

Herzliya Park also offers a seasonal contrast. Its winter pond fills with vegetation and animals in winter, including waterbirds and aquatic insects; in summer, it dries up. The change affects both the state of the pond and the natural scene: a winter expanse of water gives way to a dry pond in summer. If you want to include nature watching in your plans, this seasonal difference is a useful point of reference.

Sailing and Water Sports at the Marina

At Herzliya Marina, you can take day sails and multi-day trips on private yachts with family and friends. The options range from a day trip to several days on the water. Kayaking and jet skiing are also available, and watercraft can be rented. If you plan to take part in one of these activities, check in advance which options are available on your preferred dates. Local and international sailing events are also held at the marina. If you want an event to be the reason for your trip, check the specific dates before making plans.

Choose a Holiday Apartment to Suit Your Travel Plans

When looking for a holiday apartment in Herzlia, it is worth deciding first what you want to focus on. Are you mainly interested in archaeological traces and landscape views, or are sailing and water activities your priority? The season may also factor into your decision if you want to take the changing winter pond into account.
