Indonesia is the world’s largest island state with an island chain of 17,508 island but only 6044 islands are inhabited. In the North of Indonesia one can find Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Palau. Papua New Guinea and South Australia lie to the east of Indonesia.
There is a great number of active volcanoes on the islands of Indonesia like the Bromo volcano, Mount Awu and Merapi. The four largest mountains of Indonesia are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The coastline of Indonesia in rich in coral reefs that is about 80,000 kilometers.
One of the most important tourist destinations in Indonesia is Bali. Bali is the island of Gods. Here one can find a great number of temples, rituals and ceremonies. Almost every village has got at least three temples. Some temples are also situated in the impenetrable forests. The Bali terrace relief is also very impressive due to the rice terraces. In the North of the island there are now 1,000 to 3,000 meters high volcanoes. Bali is a bathing paradise with beautiful wide sandy beaches. In the South you will find the white sand beaches and in the East and in the North you will find the dark beached with the discolored volcanic sand. To the most popular beaches belong such beaches as Nusa Dua, Sanur and Kuta. You will get much pleasure from different kinds of water sports that are innumerous on Bali. They are sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, waterskiing, snorkeling, diving and fishing.
One more popular destination is the city of Jakarta. It is the mega city with an impressive skyline and a variety of shopping centers. Other popular destinations in Indonesia are the island of Sumatra, Java. You should also make a visit to the lacustrine dwellings in Batak villages, the Botanical Garden of Bogor, the Buddhist temple Borabudur and the Gunung Leuser National Park on Sumatra.
