Temples, rock monuments and river landscapes show the many different sides of Bhilwara. The district is part of the historic region of Mewar in Rajasthan. In Bijolia, religious sites meet a 12th-century monument; closer to the city, hills, an unusual rock formation and the confluence of three rivers offer further impressions. This lets you weigh up cultural sites and landscape destinations when planning your trip.

Bijolia: Religious Sites and Historical Traces

Bijolia is home to several places with different religious and historical associations. The Bijolia rock inscription is among the 12th-century monuments in Bhilwara district. The Mandakini Temple complex comprises three Shiva temples, including the Hajaresvara Mahadeva Temple. Bijolia thus combines a single rock monument with a temple complex that includes several Shiva temples.

Jain tradition and local lore are also part of the picture. The Shree Digambar Jain Parshwanath Atishaya Teerthkhshetra in Bijolia is said to be more than 2,700 years old. At Kyara ke Balaji, there is an image of the god Hanuman; according to local lore, it appeared naturally in the rock. The age attributed to the Jain shrine remains a traditional claim, while the story of the Hanuman image is explicitly part of local lore. For those interested in culture, this creates a contrast between a dated monument, a temple complex and religious stories.

In Bhilwara itself, the Gayatri Shakti Peeth is located near the central bus station. This Hindu place of worship is dedicated to the goddess Shakti, also known as Sati. It adds a distinct place of worship in Bhilwara to the sites in Bijolia.

Rocks, Hills and Rivers in the Surrounding Area

At Adhar Sheela Mahadev in Pur, a large rock rests on a smaller one. This geological phenomenon attracts tourists; Pur is about ten kilometres from Bhilwara city. Hills also shape the places in the surrounding area: Harni Mahadev is a Shiva temple surrounded by picturesque hills, about eight kilometres from Bhilwara. Chamunda Mata Mandir is also located in the hills of Harni Mahadev. From the top, it offers a sweeping view across the entire city; the site is about five kilometres from Bhilwara.

Water landscapes show another side of the area. Meja Dam is 20 kilometres from Bhilwara and is considered a popular tourist attraction and picnic spot. Triveni Chauraha, 40 kilometres from Bhilwara, is the confluence of the Menali, Badachh and Banas rivers. The two places differ both in their landscapes and their distance from the city: the dam is notable as an attraction and picnic spot, while Triveni Chauraha is known for the meeting of three rivers.

Mandal also combines religious history with a distinctive structure. Bagore Sahib is a historic gurdwara in the village of Bagore in Mandal tehsil, about 20 kilometres from Mandal. It is associated with Guru Gobind Singh’s stay there on his journey to Punjab. Mandal is also home to the memorial known as Battis Khambon ki Chhatri, dedicated to Jagannath Kachhawaha. Its 32 intricately carved sandstone pillars make their number and stonework the defining features of the monument. Mandal is about 16 kilometres from Bhilwara.

Choose the Right Focus for Your Trip

These places cater to different interests: Bijolia brings together temples, Jain tradition, Hanuman lore and a 12th-century monument; Harni Mahadev combines a Shiva temple with hills and a sweeping view of the city. Pur is known for its unusual rock formation, Meja for the dam and its role as a picnic spot, and Triveni Chauraha for its river confluence. The distances mentioned range from about five to 40 kilometres from Bhilwara. If you are looking for a holiday rental, it helps to first consider whether you want to focus your trip mainly on cultural sites or on a variety of landscapes.
