Nāvalūr combines a small, named hill landscape with several temple connections. The group of hills is called Navalur Gudda. An account of a visit in 2009 describes the Basavanna Gudi shrine as old and places it on a peak of Navalur Gudda. A 2023 description names the small Basavanna Gudi temple on the eastern peak of Navalur Hill; the group of hills is also called Navalur Gudda. Thus, the named hill is associated with a peak shrine whose descriptions give both a general location and a more precise indication that it is on the eastern peak.

The Hanuman Mandir in Navalur faces south; this observation was made during a trip in 2023. A 2026 description of the area places a temple dedicated to Hanuman on the northeastern edge of Navalur. In addition to the peak location, the direction it faces and its position on the edge of the area provide specific points of reference. If you choose your holiday rental based on the character of your trip, the hilly landscape and religious buildings can help guide your choice of location.

Dharwad: Temples, Culture and Activities

In the wider destination of Dharwad, other temples add to the picture of historic architecture. The Chandramouleshwara Temple in Unkal is an architectural monument of the Chalukyas. It has four doors facing the four cardinal directions and two large Shiva lingas, and is described as an outstanding temple around 900 years old. The Shri Amruteshwara Temple in Annigeri was built in 1050 AD and is considered the first temple built of soapstone. It is designed in the Kalyani Chalukya style; its roof is supported by 76 pillars. The examples highlight different features: doors facing the four directions and lingas in one case, and construction date, stone and a pillared roof in the other.

Religious tradition and music history also shape Dharwad. Tamboor is an important pilgrimage center for the Lingayat community. At its heart is the Basavanna Temple, dedicated to one of the most revered saints of the Lingayat faith. The Tamboor Jathre draws pilgrims from across Karnataka; if it matters to your trip, check the dates in advance. Kundgol is home to the ancient Shambulingeswara and Brahma temples. The town is also considered the birthplace of Hindustani musician Rambhau Kundgolkar, also known as Pandit Sawai Gandharva. The existence of the 11th-century Shri Shambhulingeshwara Temple is cited as evidence that Kundgol belonged to the core territory of the Western Chalukya Empire.

For outdoor activities, Unkal Lake offers a different focus: it is surrounded by lush greenery and is suitable for walking, boating and picnicking. Visitors can go boating on the lake in Sadhankeri Park, which honors the Kannada poet Dr. Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre. Children can enjoy seesaws, merry-go-rounds, slides and swings there. The options therefore range from walks and picnics by the lake to boat rides and amusement rides in the park. Dharwad Peda is a regional sweet popular with locals and visitors.
