Discover Baoshan: Wetlands, Legends and Culture
Accommodation in Baoshan
The wider area around Baoshan offers everything from wetland landscapes and an ancient bronze drum that inspired a museum building to legends, historic lanes and Daoist architecture. This variety is a good starting point when choosing a vacation rental in Baoshan: first consider which experiences you want to shape your stay.
Water, Biodiversity and Parkland
In the eastern part of Longyang’s urban area lies Qinghua Hai National Wetland Park, which covers 1,363 hectares. A total of 251 bird species, 992 plant species, 18 fish species, 12 amphibian species and 14 reptile species have been recorded there. Alongside the lakes, these figures highlight the diversity of plant and animal groups; subsequent surveys may change the population counts.
The completed West Lake and East Lake urban parks at Qinghua Hai are open and offer opportunities to relax by the water, visit the lakes, exercise and enjoy leisure activities. East Lake includes the lake itself, a waterside pier, a cascade waterfall and the Rainbow Bridge. The wetland park’s tourist attractions also include a waterfall landscape and the Yongzi Go Academy. It serves as a window for visitors into Yongzi culture and the history of Go. Before visiting, check the current conditions for individual facilities if necessary.
A Museum with Unusual Architecture
The Baoshan Museum is also part of the wider area around Baoshan. Its building is modeled on the shape of an ancient bronze drum excavated locally. It is 19.6 meters high and has a maximum diameter of 56.6 meters. The drum walls feature four large reliefs: the Jiulong Legend, “Double Rainbow on the Silk Road,” “Elephant Plowing in Yongchang” and “Crossing the Nu River.”
As a public, nonprofit cultural institution, the museum collects and displays cultural artifacts, provides educational programs, conducts field archaeology and heritage conservation, and engages in historical and cultural research. The opening schedule published in February 2025 lists Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last admission at 4:30 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays, except on public holidays. Check the museum’s latest notice before your visit.
Legends, Reading Areas and Historic Lanes
Yiluo Pond in the wider Baoshan area was formerly called Jiulong Pond. It is associated with the Jiulong mythology of the ancient Ailao Kingdom and preserves memories of the resistance war in western Yunnan. The pond is also a central landmark in the historic and cultural city of Longyang and a place for residents to relax. A winding greenway runs through the grounds. The pavilion on the lake houses the “Zhuoying” reading area, a reading and recreation area, and a collection of Baoshan literature.
The historic and cultural Renshoumen Quarter is also located in Longyang’s urban area. It was designated a provincial-level historic and cultural quarter in Yunnan in January 2022 and covers 17.89 hectares. Its heritage includes three immovable cultural relics, nine historic buildings, 113 buildings with traditional architectural features, nine traditional lanes and 20 elements of intangible cultural heritage. Its history spans everything from individual buildings to lanes and cultural traditions passed down through generations.
Forest Park and Daoist Architecture on Taibao Mountain
Taibao Provincial Forest Park is located on Taibao Mountain in the western part of Longyang’s urban area. Its planned area is 485.7 hectares, and forest cover is 90 percent. The park provides residents and visitors with public opportunities for recreation, tourism and exercise.
Also on Taibao Mountain stands Yuhuang Pavilion. It was designated a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit in 2006 and is one of the largest and best-preserved Daoist architectural complexes from the Ming dynasty in western Yunnan. Its site area is about 5,000 square meters, and the building footprint is about 2,000 square meters. These two measurements describe different aspects of the complex and give an impression of its layout.
When choosing your vacation rental in Baoshan, the main question is what interests you most: do you prefer wetland landscapes and water features, are you especially interested in museum and heritage history, or would you like to combine both? Compare specific accommodation locations with the places that matter to you so your choice matches the focus of your stay.
