Dezhou brings together remarkable historical sites, Confucian culture, a stretch of the Jianhe River and a long-standing local specialty. These different themes offer distinct ways to plan your trip: you might be interested in history, culture, the river landscape or the city’s culinary heritage.

An exceptional historical site

North of the city lies the Sulu Royal Tomb. The site covers about 20,000 square metres and is the only complete tomb of a foreign king preserved in China. Descendants of the king serve as guardians of the tomb. The tomb is considered a historical testament to Chinese-Philippine friendship and has stood for 606 years. Several aspects come together here: the tomb’s unique status, the role of the descendants and a historical connection that has grown over centuries. The location is also specific: the tomb lies north of Dezhou’s urban area.

Confucian culture and museum work

Dongziyuan Scenic Area is located in Dezhou’s Tianqu New Area. A national AAAA-rated tourist attraction, it covers 743 mu and focuses on Confucian culture. The site includes the Dongzi Reading Platform. Its name gives this cultural theme a tangible focus within the area, without requiring any one attraction to define the entire visit.

Dezhou Museum offers another perspective on culture. It combines collections and exhibitions with scientific research and public education. This gives it a broad institutional profile: whether you are more interested in a particular historical site, a place shaped by Confucian culture or the work of a comprehensive museum, Dezhou offers a range of cultural points of interest.

Jianhe and thematic perspectives

Shandong Dezhou Jianhe National Wetland Park includes the stretch of the Jianhe River within the urban area. Its planning area runs from the Sinu Temple water-control hub to the northern border with Hebei and is 31.3 kilometres long in total. The river’s place within the city and the extent of the planning area give the Jianhe theme its own geographical scale.

The “Dao Zhonghua · Qilu Tour · Two Rivers Hand in Hand” experiential route has also been developed for Dezhou. It brings together themes of Yellow River culture, canal culture, intangible cultural heritage and revolutionary culture. As an overarching theme, it shows how different cultural connections come together in a route concept. When planning your trip, you can consider whether to focus on individual historical sites or start with the broader cultural themes.

A speciality with a long history

Dezhou Baji is also part of the city’s history: this signature dish from Dezhou was first made in 1692 and has a history of more than 300 years. Its origins add a culinary tradition to the picture of the destination. For anyone who, alongside historical sites, is curious about the story behind local specialities, Dezhou Baji is another part of that story.

Choose the right location for your holiday rental

When looking for a holiday rental, first consider what will shape your trip. The geographical reference points differ: the Sulu Royal Tomb lies north of the urban area, the Jianhe stretch is within the urban area, and Dongziyuan Scenic Area is in Tianqu New Area. Narrow down your options based on the place that best matches your planned interests, then compare a rental’s exact location with your own itinerary. This way, you can choose a holiday rental based on the experiences in Dezhou that interest you most.
