Panjin between Wetlands and Culture
Accommodation in Panjin
Two distinct travel interests come together around Panjin: the wetlands of nearby Red Beach and the cultural history of the Liaohe region. Reeds, shallow tidal flats, numerous waterbirds and red seepweed plants define its natural appeal; within the municipality, stone monuments, calligraphy, folk culture and artists’ studios add a cultural dimension. You can plan your trip around either nature or culture.
Red Beach and the Wetlands
Red Beach is located in Zhaoguanghe Town in Dawa District; its area is stated to exceed 200,000 mu. The wetlands bring together reed beds, vast shallow tidal flats, numerous waterbirds and red seepweed plants. This combination of plants, waterways and birdlife makes it a distinctive natural attraction on a trip to Panjin.
A seasonal recommendation from 2020 mentions boat trips on Wolong Lake that pass through reed beds and offer a chance to experience the wetlands. If you plan to take this trip, check in advance whether boat tours are available during your travel dates.
An official report from 2024 states that electronic tickets for the Red Beach National Scenic Corridor are available through WeChat, Douyin and ticket machines. It also lists a visitor centre, boardwalks, covered rest areas, viewing platforms and toilets. Check the current ticket options before your visit.
Stone Monuments in Panjin Municipality
The exhibition area of the Liaohe Stele Forest features 700 stele monuments and 1,064 inscribed stone slabs. The exhibits range from early characters and oracle-bone inscriptions to calligraphy works from various dynasties.
The oval Liaohe Stele Forest Park is surrounded by water and covers 167 hectares: 100 hectares of land and 67 hectares of water. The Liaohe Stele Forest is described as China’s only stele forest with an unbroken history; its complex of buildings in an ancient style is considered the largest of its kind in Northeast China to date.
Museums, Folk Art and Studios
A tourism recommendation from 2026 names the Liaohe Art Museum, the Liaohe Museum of Couplets and Calligraphy, and the Liaohe Folk Museum as places to experience art. A city government article from January 2026 states that the Liaohe Folk Museum has almost 10,000 folk-culture exhibits illustrating the thousands-of-years-long cultural history of the Liaohe River region.
In Xinglongtai District, Guangsha Art Street includes galleries and artists’ studios, regional creative shops, food and beverage businesses, and leisure facilities such as a library and cultural centre. A tourism authority article from 2025 reports that more than 100 artists from various parts of China, as well as South Korea, Russia and Japan, are based there.
At the opening event of the Panjin Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall in June 2026, wood carvings by the Sun family of Panjin, reed paintings from Panjin, button art by the Wu family of Panjin and opera masks were displayed; cultural heritage practitioners demonstrated traditional techniques.
A Regional Travel Idea Combining Culture and Cuisine
A tourist route from 2026 runs from Liaohe Old Street in Yingkou to the Liaohe Folk Museum in Xinglongtai District and then to the Red Beach Scenic Corridor in Dawa District. The museum is paired with Liaohekou fishermen’s cuisine.
When choosing a holiday rental in Panjin, it helps to decide on your main focus first: Red Beach represents the wetlands, while the Stele Forest, museums and studios offer a window into calligraphy, folk culture and art history. Plan the rest of your trip around whichever of these themes you want to shape your stay.
