Hebi and its surroundings offer a variety of highlights, including historic architecture, regional heritage and the landscape design of Fengling Park. Each place has its own character: from a residence more than 500 years old to a large park with gardens shaped by the seasons. The themes that interest you most may also influence your choice of where to stay.

Historic Architecture and Cultural History

The Li Shangshu Residence stands in the Dahu community of the affiliated township. It is more than 500 years old and is known for its ornate wall reliefs and traditional timber construction. Dark tiled roofs and ceramic roof ornaments define its architecture; its construction features four beams and eight pillars. The residence therefore combines a long history with distinctive architectural features. The Dahu community itself also has designated status: it is a traditional village at the national level and a historic and cultural village at the provincial level.

A series of events at the Li Shangshu Residence included Shehuo performances, iron-flower fireworks displays and other cultural events. If you would like to include such a programme in your trip, check the latest dates. Another cultural site in the affiliated township is the Shilin Military Conference Site, one of the main attractions in the Shilin Scenic Area.

In the wider region around Hebi, the Liu-Deng Army Memorial Museum explores the history of the Liu-Deng Army. Its exhibition space covers 1,500 square metres, and the second floor houses the themed exhibition “The Liu-Deng Army in Hebi.” Thus, cultural offerings in the area range from traditional architecture to a focused exhibition.

Fengling Park: Landscape and Leisure Areas

Fengling Park in the affiliated township covers 81.4 hectares. On 20 July 2012, following an assessment by an expert group, it was upgraded to a provincial forest park. It is described as an ecological garden combining recreation, sightseeing, ecological protection and nature education. Located in the southwest of Shancheng District, it is bordered by roads: Shancheng Road lies to the west, Zhaoxia Street to the south, and roads run along two other sides of the park.

The park’s different areas also have distinct designs. A lake was created in the east by excavating the ground; in the west, the land was raised and planted with trees. The southern part of the western hill has a viewing platform and the landscape features “Night Mooring at Maple Bridge” and “Seeking Plum Blossoms in the Snow.” Ornamental pear trees, plum trees and nandina, among other plants, were planted there. The changing seasons give the park a different character throughout the year: flowers bloom in spring, trees provide shade in summer, red leaves glow in autumn, and wax plum blossoms bloom in winter.

A renovation reported in 2023 added benches, children’s play equipment and table-tennis tables. Fengling Mingxuan, in the park, also permanently houses a stele bearing a poem. One historical detail is also relevant to present-day planning: the park opened to the public free of charge on 1 November 2002. Check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Regional Orientation and Trip Planning

Regional specialties add to the picture. In the wider travel area, crucian carp, duck eggs and Herba Rabdosiae are collectively known as the “three treasures of the Qi River.” For orientation in the surrounding area, the Beijing–Guangzhou railway, the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway and National Highway 107 run from north to south.

When choosing a holiday rental in Hebi, start by considering the focus of your trip: are you especially interested in park landscapes and garden areas, or are historic architecture and cultural history your main priorities?
