Rainforest hiking, Li brocade and tea-growing history give Wuzhishan several distinct facets. The Taiping Ring hiking route provides an active focus; the Hainan Nationalities Museum explores Hainan’s history and the cultures of the Li, Miao and Hui. Added to these are textile craft traditions and historical traces of tea cultivation. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Wuzhishan, first consider which of these interests you want to shape your holiday.

Hiking in the Rainforest Landscape

The Taiping Ring hiking route starts in Tongshi Town and is laid out as a 25-kilometre circular route. It takes in the area’s tropical rainforest landscape. Its length makes it a distinct focus in your day’s itinerary. Check the current trail conditions and signage before setting out.

Exhibitions and Li Brocade

The Hainan Nationalities Museum presents Hainan’s history and the cultures of the Li, Miao and Hui in six permanent exhibitions and two halls for temporary exhibitions. The content may change. This topic therefore encompasses both permanent exhibitions and changing presentations.

Liu Weitong, a city-recognized bearer of intangible cultural heritage for traditional Li spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidery techniques, founded a Li brocade workshop in Tongshi Town. He also describes the distinctive features of plant dyeing: results vary according to raw materials, climate and customs; the longer the dyes are stored, the darker the colours become. This illustrates how several influences come together in a craft process.

Historical Scenes and Tea Traditions

The immersive Tongshi 1988 district recreates scenes from a general store and a photo studio from the 1980s. The staging brings to life the former heyday of the capital of the former Tongshi Autonomous Administrative Region. Traditional bamboo and wooden instruments, Li brocade and Miao embroidery are incorporated into the visitor experience through mobile stages and workshop activities. A 2026 official report mentions more than 100 intangible cultural heritage performances since the district opened.

Tea history, too, has its own timeline. Traditional tea picking was used as a festive activity in Shihui Village, where the first Hainan Spring Tea Harvest Festival was held. Red Flag Tea Farm was established in 1958 and renamed State-run Tongshi Tea Farm in January 1960.

Choose a Holiday Rental Based on Your Itinerary

You can choose a holiday rental by prioritising your interests for the trip. A day spent on the 25-kilometre circular hike has a different focus from exploring exhibitions, Li brocade, Miao embroidery or tea history. If you are planning a trip with children, treat the hike as a separate activity choice and select cultural topics based on what interests your fellow travellers. This makes it clearer which daily rhythm suits your trip and which criteria you want to compare first when searching for a holiday rental.
