Dongshan Ridge is located three kilometres east of Wancheng Town. Its three parallel peaks resemble a Chinese brush holder; at 184.4 metres, the ridge’s height is also specified. The view and the local legend add further dimensions to this distinctive landscape.

Three Peaks as a Shared Motif

The comparison with a Chinese brush holder draws attention to the arrangement: the three peaks stand parallel and together form the motif described. Such a holder is used to hold writing brushes, so the image represents a group of shapes arranged side by side, rather than a single peak. The 184.4 metres add a different feature to the comparison of shapes: the ridge’s height. The comparison and the measurement thus answer different questions: What does the silhouette look like, and how high is the ridge?

The View from the Platform

The “瑶台” platform is located at the summit of Dongshan Ridge. From there, the view extends across the Wanning Plain and the Dongshan River to the South China Sea. The plain, river and sea are distinct landscape features brought together in the view from a single location. Before visiting, check whether the platform is currently accessible and what conditions are like on the mountain. Also check visibility if the view of the South China Sea is especially important to you.

Historical Name and Legend

Historically, the mountain was also called Bijia Mountain. The rock formation known as “仙舟系缆” is also located on Dongshan Ridge. According to legend, the Dragon King of the Sea came to the mountain by boat to obtain an elixir. The story links the named rock feature to a narrated journey and its purpose, adding a mythical dimension to the description of the landscape. The historical name and the legend serve different roles: Bijia Mountain is an earlier name, while the dragon story tells what the king sought on the mountain.

If you are planning a trip with several travellers, two interests can come together around the same motif: the shape of the peaks and the view offer a landscape-focused perspective, while the legend of the Dragon King of the Sea offers a story. This makes the ridge a specific point of discussion when choosing a place together and taking different preferences into account.

Landscape and Legend at Dongshan Ridge

The ridge lies three kilometres east of Wancheng Town and combines a distinctive arrangement of peaks with a traditional dragon story. The peaks, sea view and legend offer different points of interest for planning your trip. The ridge brings together a natural vista and a cultural motif: the parallel peaks and the view reaching to the sea define the landscape, while the legend of the Dragon King of the Sea provides the narrative accent.
