Accommodation in Yangshuo
The Yulong River flows through Yangshuo Town and is the longest tributary of the Li River within Yangshuo. Known as the “Little Li River,” it is a distinctive name for the area’s waterscape. The Yulong River National Tourism and Leisure Area includes Yangshuo Town, among other places, and extends across four townships in total. The river, town and tourist area therefore offer different points of reference that you can distinguish when planning your trip.
Yulong River: Weirs and Peaceful Boating
The stretch of water between Yulong Bridge and Gongnong Bridge is 18.8 kilometres long and has 28 weirs. Bamboo raft rides over weirs are offered on the Yulong River in Yangshuo County; peaceful boating is also possible. These are two different ways to enjoy a stay by the water: a bamboo raft ride over weirs or a more leisurely form of boating. The river landscape is thus a distinct focus for trip planning alongside the cultural performances.
Yangshuo Between Town and County
Yangshuo West Street is in the centre of the old town and is 800 metres long. Another specific location is the Yangshuo Totem Ancient Trail–Julongtan Scenic Area, which is classified as a national 4A tourist attraction and is located in Fengming San, a neighbourhood of Yangshuo Town. West Street and Fengming San are therefore two named points of reference within the town.
The China Li River Landscape Theatre is located at the confluence of the Li River and Tianjia River in Yangshuo County and is the venue for “Impression·Liu San Jie.” This represents a different geographical level from the places within the town.
Cultural Performances with Different Backdrops
For “Impression·Liu San Jie,” the waters of the Li River, Shitong Mountain and twelve mountain peaks form the stage. A 2019 report noted in retrospect that, since its official premiere in 2004, more than 500 performances had taken place each year, with nearly all shows sold out. This figure puts the performance’s history at the time into context and relates to that historical reporting period.
“Guilin Qianguqing” takes a different approach: the offering combines a theme park with cultural performances and interactive entertainment, and portrays Guilin’s history and ethnic customs. The performances began in Jima Village in Yangshuo Town. For “Impression·Liu San Jie,” the named river and mountain landscape forms the stage; “Guilin Qianguqing” focuses on the theme park, entertainment and cultural themes. You can distinguish between these two cultural attractions by the kind of production that interests you.
Choose the Right Location for Your Holiday Rental
When looking for a holiday rental in Yangshuo, you can first decide which experiences you want to shape your stay. West Street and Fengming San are located within the town; the theatre and the river activities described here are in Yangshuo County. Use these location details as a guide in your search and compare them with your priorities: river activities, the old town or cultural performances. This way, you can choose accommodation based on the actual locations of the experiences without treating the town and county as the same place.
