In Hamala, Al Liwan brings together entertainment, restaurants and cafés, along with a main promenade. Yabeela Bahrain, the central square and Camel Club café each give the area its own distinctive character. This lets you get to know Hamala through specific experiences and consider whether Al Liwan suits the priorities for your stay.

Yabeela and the central square at Al Liwan

Yabeela Bahrain is the largest indoor family entertainment centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain; this comparative size may change over time. It offers more than 150 games, including high-speed racing and climbing walls. There is also a restaurant and an event hall for birthday parties. If you are interested in a lively range of entertainment, you can find several different activities here in one place.

Al Liwan’s central square is designed as a spacious courtyard for public gatherings and entertainment. It connects to all areas of the complex, making it a distinct landmark within Al Liwan.

Promenade, restaurants and Camel Club

A main promenade runs through Al Liwan, connecting 136 retail outlets as well as restaurants and cafés. The number of outlets may change. Together with the dining options, the promenade forms a shopping and dining thoroughfare. Restaurants and cafés at Al Liwan have indoor and outdoor seating; check current offerings before your visit.

Camel Club café has its own distinctive character. Its design combines the nostalgia of the 1980s and 1990s with a modern feel. It also stands out for its cuisine, serving “fusion Arabic” dishes. The menu includes items such as Madrooba croquettes, Panko arancini bars and Wagyu Tikka with a black lime glaze. Dishes may change, so these examples are not a fixed menu.

Putting Hamala’s location in context

Al Liwan in Hamala is 17 km from Manama and a short distance from the King Fahd Causeway, which connects to Saudi Arabia. If Yabeela, the promenade or dining are set to shape your stay, you can use Hamala as a location reference when searching for a holiday rental. Which priorities matter for your trip depends on whether you are mainly looking for entertainment, food or time along the shopping thoroughfare.

Archaeological themes in the wider destination

Beyond Hamala, the wider destination of Al-Muhafazah Ash-Shamaliyah offers its own archaeological context. The Diraz Temple complex preserves the southwestern remains of a Dilmun settlement covering around 700 square metres. The temple was probably built in the early 2nd millennium BC. Its tentative dating and the surviving settlement area give the site a different historical scale from Al Liwan’s present-day shopping and entertainment options.

Burial mound fields also shape the archaeological history of this wider destination. The A´Ali West Burial Mound Field comprises 723 burial mounds. Six distinctive mounds with outer ring walls are considered evidence of chiefly burials; some are still visible. The Madinat Hamad 1 Burial Mounds Field, also called the Buri Burial Mound Field, preserves 754 burial mounds dating from 2050 to 1700 BC. These figures and dates illustrate the different historical evidence found across Al-Muhafazah Ash-Shamaliyah.

The Barbar Temples comprise three successive temples built in five construction phases and dating from the 2nd and 3rd millennia BC. These archaeological sites are part of the wider destination of Al-Muhafazah Ash-Shamaliyah.
