Sissian: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

For anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sissian, the following applies: The tourist destination “Sisian,” designated by the Armenian government, encompasses the city of Sisian, the Zorats Karer Historical-Cultural Reserve and the Vorotnavank Monastic Complex.

Culture and Craftsmanship

The Sisian History Museum Named After N. Adonts was founded in 1989 and became an independent museum in 1993. Its exhibition exclusively represents the area of Sisian. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum organizes temporary exhibitions and events.

Sisian is also home to the St. Grigor Lusavorich (Gregory the Illuminator) Church, an undamaged structure dating from the 6th century. At Sisian Ceramics, a batik painting workshop inspired by the imagery of the Ughtasar petroglyphs is offered.

Geography

Sisian is located on both banks of the Vorotan River, approximately 6–7 km south of the Yerevan–Meghri interstate highway.

Nature

The area around Sisian is associated with the Vorotan River basin, Shaki Waterfall, hot springs, and a mineral spring with a temperature of approximately 40 °C in the village of Vorotan.

Regional Cuisine

The Hatsatun restaurant is affiliated with Sisian Ceramics and offers cooking classes based on the culinary traditions of Syunik. In a Hatsatun cooking class, visitors learn to prepare a village feast with emmer wheat pilaf and oven-baked potatoes. Hatsatun serves traditional dishes, including harissa, lenten tolma, Zangezur salad, and local soups.
