Culture

Vanadzor is considered Lori’s cultural centre, with cultural institutions, a music scene and historic Soviet architecture. The Vanadzor Fine Arts Museum is located at the city’s central roundabout and was founded in 1974 as a branch of the National Gallery of Armenia. Mashtotsi Blur and the Lori-Pambak Archaeological Museum are located near Vanadzor. Also nearby are the Vanadzor Palace of Culture after Charles Aznavour and the Anton Kochinyan Monument.

Nature

Karmirsar is located near Vanadzor. K’ura, Irits’i Khothark’ and Hoghmasar are located in the surrounding area of Vanadzor. In the heart of the town is the Vanadzor Dendropark, named after Zhora Sarukhanyan, with native and exotic flora. The park was established in the 1950s.

Activities and Recreation

Boo Mountain Bike Park is home to Armenia’s first pump track, a closed circuit with bumps and turns. Vanadzor and the surrounding area are associated with mineral spring water and wellness experiences at the Armenia Health Resort. Lori is described as a region offering hikes across a wide range of elevations, white-water rafting on the Debed and cycling activities in the area between Vanadzor and Dsegh.

Cuisine

Lori’s cuisine is described as using edible plants in soups, salads and pickled green ingredients. Regional specialities include Yeghinj soup, Pipert soup, Yegh u Jil, pickled green ingredients and Lori cheese.
