Stepanawan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Stepanawan combines archaeological traces with preserved buildings, wooded landscapes, and a river route. At the western edge of the city are the remains of an ancient fortress dating from the 3rd millennium BC. Culture

In the center of Stepanawan, the Holy Saviour chapel from the 13th century has been preserved. The Stepan Shahumyan House-Museum was built around the house where Shahumyan grew up in Stepanawan. It contains 1,646 exhibits, including archaeological objects excavated from regional monuments; these monuments date from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Museum visitors can learn about his life and the history of Stepanawan there.

Nature

The Stepanavan Dendropark near Gyulagarak was established in 1931 and covers 35 hectares, including 17.5 hectares of natural forest and 15 hectares of ornamental plants. More than 2,500 plant species were tested there; 500 of them adapted to the region.

Geographical Location

The Lori Berd historical-cultural reserve lies near Stepanawan on a plateau bordered by the steep gorges of the Dzoraget and Miskhana rivers. The Lori Fortress is an 11th-century fortress located about 5 km from Stepanawan, near Lori Berd. The St. Sign Chapel was built in 1871 and is located 2 km from Stepanawan on the road to Armanis.

The rafting route on the Dzoraget begins at the Dzoraget Bridge in Stepanawan.

Climate

Stepanawan has a humid climate. The average temperature is -4.2 °C in January and +16.7 °C in June. Due to its climatic conditions, Stepanawan is considered one of Armenia's resort areas.
