Culture and History

Kecharis was founded in the 11th century by the Pakhlavuni princes. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Kecharis was an important religious center of Armenia and had a higher school. In medieval Armenia, it was also one of the important cultural and spiritual centers. The main group consists of four churches, two chapels, and a narthex; construction of Kecharis continued until the middle of the 13th century.

The brothers Ruben, Levon, and Hovsep Orbeli were born in Tsaghkadzor. The Orbeli Brothers House Museum is housed in the brothers’ former family home and honors their scientific achievements. It contains approximately 2,000 exhibits, whose displays are divided into a scientific section and a memorial section.

Winter

Tsaghkadzor is described as a winter resort with skiing, modern chairlifts, snow-covered forests, and après-ski cafés.

The Tsaghkadzor Zip Line reaches heights of up to 130 meters. The Tsaghkadzor cable car offers bird’s-eye views and panoramic views over the landscape of Tsaghkadzor. It has five stations; the fifth was put into operation specifically for tourists. The cable car reaches the heights of Mount Teghenis in 40 minutes and operates year-round. It is a chairlift system with seats for up to four children or adults.

Sports and Exercise

The Tsakhkadzor Sports Center has an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool and saunas. It also has indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

Nature

The Tsaghkadzor municipality promotes the warm season with hikes through wildflower-rich nature as well as climbing and cycling activities.
