Hankavan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hankavan is a spa resort situated in the Marmarik Gorge at an altitude of around 1,900 metres above sea level; the mountain slopes are covered with forests and shrubs. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Hankavan can then continue their search for accommodation.

Nature

The Hankavan Hydrological State Sanctuary follows the upper Marmarik catchment area, from its sources to the hydrological point in Hankavan. It is located on the slopes of the Tsaghkunyats Mountains at elevations ranging from 1,947 to 2,370 metres. In Kotayk, the protected area covers 5,202.86 hectares. Protected features include the aquatic ecosystem of the upper Marmarik, mineral spring outflows, and living and non-living natural monuments.

Waterfalls on tributaries of the upper Marmarik catchment area are located about one kilometre west of the western end of Hankavan, near the former Ararat children's recreation centre. Several nearby waterfalls, up to five metres high, are located on a right-bank tributary. The route to the large waterfall requires an ascent of 300 metres in elevation along a path running beside the tributary, which is described as difficult; a guide is recommended. The highest waterfall in the cascade is described as a scenic geological monument.

The road section to the former Ararat recreation centre is described as fully paved and is relevant for hikers, cyclists and motorcyclists.

Culture

A 19th-century Greek church is considered locally to be one of Hankavan's notable landmarks. A burial ground is located beside the road into the village. Hankavan also preserves a church and monuments dating back to the seventh century.

Hankavan's resort climate is described as mild. Average temperatures are 16 to 18 °C in July and August and −7 °C in January. The main resources for spa treatment in Hankavan are the mountain climate and Hankavan mineral water.
