History and Culture

Byureghavan retains the well-maintained appearance of a Soviet factory settlement. The settlement was named Byureghavan in 1974. Glass and crystal production were both a livelihood and a source of local pride during the Soviet decades. A glass factory associated with Byureghavan began operations in 1947. The name Byureghavan literally means “crystal city”.

The Byureghavan Library is associated with events marking International Mother Language Day.

Byureghavan is a convenient stop on the way to mountainous Kotayk. From Byureghavan, the resort town of Arzni with its springs can be reached. The Hrazdan Gorge itself is also accessible from Byureghavan.
