Culture

The Neghuts complex consists of a church, an adjoining gavit, and a separate small chapel. Neghuts Monastery was built in the 10th or 11th century and includes a church with a column-free dome. The surviving Saint Astvatsatsin Church near Neghuts is incomplete: three walls are still standing, while the southern wall has collapsed. An inscription at Neghuts records the year 1451; further inscriptions date from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Neghuts Church is surrounded by house foundations and khachkars. Historically, Arzakan had three smithies, three weaving mills, a carpenter's workshop, and a wool-processing workshop.

Hiking

The Aghveran Loop is a named 10.1-kilometer route and a five-hour hike that begins in Arzakan. It passes through the volcanic Tsaghkunyats Mountains, reaches Tsaghkunyats Lake, and crosses from Kotayk to Aragatsotn. Winter hikers are advised to bring snowshoes, check snow and weather conditions, and take avalanche danger into account.
