Tsamakaberd: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Mashtots Chapel is located east of Tsamakaberd, approximately 2.5 to 3 kilometers away. The name Mashtots is associated with Catholicos Mashtots Yegivardetsi, who held office in 897–898.

Religious Tradition

Mashtots later moved to Sevan Island and founded a monastic community there. Believers from various places visit the Mashtots Chapel to ask for the intercession of the saint.

The Church of St. Gevorg is also one of Tsamakaberd’s religious landmarks. It is described as a church with a history of more than one hundred years; its reconstruction began in 1905. In the Tsamakaberd district of Sevan, the Church of St. Gevorg was reconstructed in 2006 with the support of Walter Marutyan. The Church of St. Gevorg is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Lake Sevan. It was reopened to believers on June 23, 2007.

History

The nearby Metsop Fortress is approximately 225 meters long and 25 to 30 meters wide. Three tower traces have been preserved along its walls. Before the lake level fell, the former fortress stood on a peninsula south of Tsamakaberd.

Landscape

The hill south of Tsamakaberd offers views of Lchashen Fortress and the summit of Metsop. A former fortress on this hill may have served as a lookout post. The summit of Metsop rises approximately 600 meters above the surrounding area and is difficult to access. From there, the view extends toward Hrazdan and the ancient fortress of Lchashen.
