Culture and History

Near the Barepat River, Kalavan is home to a documented Stone Age archaeological settlement. The finds and structures include Early Bronze Age graves, stone constructions, obsidian and flint quarries, primitive weapons, and animal bones with spearheads. The area may encompass several Stone Age campsites.

The Government of Armenia has formally designated Kalavan, Ttujur, and Dprabak within Gegharkunik Marz as the tourist destination “Kalavan”. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Kalavan can then continue their accommodation search.

Cycling

Kalavan is connected to regional outdoor routes: visitors can cycle to Kalavan from Drakhtik or Tsovagyugh, and an off-road jeep route between Tsovagyugh and Kalavan is described.
