Discover Kiddʼs Beach
Accommodation in Kiddʼs Beach
The surf spot, river trails and coastal walk give a stay in Kiddʼs Beach a range of possible focuses. You can take changing surf conditions into account, follow a river or plan a walk by the sea. There is also a lagoon for paddling and a natural pool that appears at low tide. If you are looking for a holiday rental, it helps to start by organising your plans for each day around water activities and trails.
Water, river and local character
Kiddʼs Beach is a surf spot, and surf conditions vary. If you want to surf, take these changing conditions into account when planning. Another option is the lagoon on the Mkhanzi River, which is suitable for canoeing and kayaking. This means activities at the surf spot and on the lagoon offer two distinct ways to enjoy the water.
The Mkhanzi River probably forms the eastern boundary of Kiddʼs Beach. Its name also has a linguistic significance: it derives from the Xhosa word “Umkhanzi” for “reeds”. The river’s geographical location is thus linked to a specific clue about the origin of its name.
For the 2024 summer season, Kiddʼs Beach Main Beach was on the municipal list of beaches patrolled by lifeguards. Kiddʼs Beach also received Pilot Blue Flag status, which should be distinguished from a full Blue Flag award.
Trails along the river and coast
The Kiddʼs Beach River Walk follows the course of the river. Along the way, walkers may spot Goliath herons or fish eagles. From Filia’s Place, another trail runs through bushland, crosses the Mkansti River and passes under the R72. Check local conditions before setting out on this trail.
A coastal walk leads from Kaysers Beach to Kiddʼs Beach. It is dependent on the wind and requires transport to the starting point. Wind and getting there are therefore important factors when planning this walk, while possible bird sightings are a special attraction of the River Walk.
Low tide and choosing your base
Nearby is Mermaid’s Pool, a natural pool at Second Beach (Leonards Bay). It appears at low tide. This spot adds a nature experience to the walks and water activities, with its timing directly tied to the tides.
When looking for a holiday rental, you can use your planned activities as a guide: do you mainly want to surf or paddle on the lagoon, or would you like river and coastal trails to shape your stay? Compare the location of your accommodation with the places you want to visit. For the coastal walk, you should also include transport to the starting point in Kaysers Beach in your plans. This lets you choose a base that suits your plans without letting any one experience define your entire stay.
