Choose a Sicilian region
Palermo and the northwest suit travellers interested in markets, history and coastal excursions. The east offers Catania, Mount Etna, Taormina and beaches. Syracuse and the southeast combine baroque towns with coves, while the west is quieter and well suited to beaches, villages and slower road trips.
Plan arrival and driving
Compare airports, ferry ports and the final road route. A hire car helps outside the main towns, but traffic, mountain roads and parking can lengthen journeys. Build time into the plan for arrival, shopping and the return to the airport.
Match accommodation to your itinerary
Check air conditioning, outdoor shade, parking and the distance to shops. A city base works for culture and restaurants; a coastal or rural home offers more space but may require daily driving. Confirm access roads and nearby services before booking.
