Goon Nure: Crown Township and Model Flying

Near Lake Victoria lies Goon Nure, an old Crown Township in Victoria. Alongside this historic place designation, model flying is another distinct feature of the area: the flying field and clubhouse of the Bairnsdale And District Model Aero Club are located in Goon Nure, and the club regularly holds flying events here. These bring together two different interests—the historical context of a township and recurring club activities centred on model flying. When planning your trip, you can first decide which of these is the main draw for you: would you like to discover Goon Nure for its local history, or plan your stay around a model flying event?

Model Flying and the Event Venue

The flying field and clubhouse of the Bairnsdale And District Model Aero Club are on Bengworden Road, opposite Boundary Road. Goon Nure is 11.5 km south of Bairnsdale. The road reference places the club within the area, while its location south of Bairnsdale provides a second point of reference for finding your way. Together, these details help you locate the club in Goon Nure and avoid confusing its location with Bairnsdale when planning your trip.

The club regularly holds flying events at VMAA State Field Eastern on Bengworden Road in Goon Nure. This gives model flying a recurring connection to the area. For planning a specific visit, the date of the event also matters: if you want to make model flying the reason for your trip, plan your travel dates around an announced event. This lets you distinguish the regular event schedule from a single, specifically dated weekend.

The event name also provides a useful point of reference: the ASA Bairnsdale Scale Comp is announced for VMAA State Field Eastern in Goon Nure. Although Bairnsdale appears in the competition name, the stated venue is in Goon Nure. If you are planning your trip around the event, use the venue and the announced dates as your guide.

A Specific Date for Trip Planning

The ASA Bairnsdale Scale Comp is announced as a scale competition weekend running from Friday, 23 October, to Sunday, 25 October 2026. The public is welcome. If you would like to visit that weekend, you can plan your stay around the three event days; check the event details again before making firm plans. The competition adds a specific, clearly dated reason to travel to the club’s regular flying activities. This makes it easier to decide whether the event dates are the main reason for your trip, or whether you would prefer to discover Goon Nure for its historic township designation and proximity to Lake Victoria, independently of that weekend.

Choose Your Stay Based on Your Reason for Travelling

When looking for a holiday rental, it makes sense to first decide which location you want to stay near and when you plan to travel. If the Scale Comp is the main focus, the announced October dates are a practical starting point for your planning. If you are mainly interested in Goon Nure as an old Crown Township near Lake Victoria, your stay does not need to be tied to the competition weekend. This distinction can also help when travelling with others: first decide whether a fixed event date or the area itself is the main focus, then look for a holiday rental that suits your planned stay.
