Holiday accommodation in Tibro: Nature, culture and active days
In Tibro, Rankås, furniture history and glass processing come together with a variety of activities. Rankås is particularly characteristic: the recreational area is situated on a glacial gravel ridge, surrounded mainly by pine forest, and offers hiking, exercise and cycling trails. On the child- and family-friendly Jättens stig in Rankås, the nature activities change with the seasons.
Nature and trails
The Å-leden also combines exercise with time spent in the countryside. The first 1.7 kilometres of the trail are accessible to wheelchairs and prams. Along the Å-leden there are several fishing spots, jetties, barbecue areas and picnic areas. Another prominent route runs between the centre of Tibro and Fagersanna: the approximately 9.5-kilometre walking and cycling path follows the former route of the Karlsborgsbanan railway line.
Water and leisure
Fishing, paddling and water skiing are possible on Lake Örlen. In Tibro, you can also fish for several different species in Lake Örlen or the Tidan.
Culture and history
The cultural sites around Tibro range from rural building history to modern architecture. Balterydsgården is a well-preserved example of a large farm from the period around the Swedish land consolidation. Balteryd Hembygdsgård also includes a fully functioning old forge from Orrebo. Balterydsgården hosts themed exhibitions and a traditional Midsummer celebration.
Brännhults hembygdsgård dates back to the 17th century. It consists of two comparable residential buildings, outbuildings and a turf hut that was moved here. In early summer, Brännhults hembygdsgård hosts a waffle day; in August, a local heritage festival with various activities follows.
In Tibro, the Tibro museum tells the story of the town's development: from small workshops next to the homes of furniture makers to large-scale industrial furniture production. The museum includes an authentic workshop from the 1920s. The Tibro Furniture Museum displays furniture made in Tibro during different periods; a visit to the Tibro Furniture Museum can be booked.
A special example of the town's more recent history is Brittgården. The modernist residential development in Tibro was built between 1959 and 1969 and designed by architect Ralph Erskine. Brittgården is valued for its cultural and architectural historical significance as well as for the unusual layouts of its apartments.
In the wider region around Tibro, Åreberg lies north of the town centre at a point where the Tidan divides into three branches. The well-preserved industrial environment there includes several important industrial heritage sites. Also on the Tidan, near Smuleberg, is Tidebergsbron, a three-span stone bridge dating from 1914. At the western bridge abutment, the remains of Tibro kvarn can be seen in the form of foundation walls and machine parts.
The Tibro Glasverkstad is located in the old railway station building. Glass made in Tibro is sold there; the workshop also offers guided glassblowing sessions in which visitors can take their own work home. Ateljé Blocking is the exhibition space of Tibro Konstförening. Works by local and national artists are exhibited there.
Family and exercise
Tibro Mini-Zoo allows visitors to encounter goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and ducks; the animals can be seen and visitors can get close to them. The mini-zoo has picnic areas and a barbecue area.
